General discussions / handouts / misc. info.:
Treasurer Report: (See
Handout for more info):
TE – Discussed return on the investment.
$1600.00
in returns made.
Most
investments in bonds – about 75% of it.
Put
more in CDs and Money Markets.
$7954
made from meets.
JP - Motion – To give Tim
the option to move some funds to other investment returns and then reevaluate
what is better, and to keep a money market with around $8000.00 in it.
GS – Second.
Passes unanimously.
Future of the
Scholarship:
JP – Discussed email about letting high school juniors and younger be eligible
for scholarship.
KM – Mentioned that it
wasn’t a good idea. The focus is money
for education for college. That’s what
it always was.
JP – Discussed being
prepared for the future, build the account up, have it ready for athletes who
might not be able to go to an NCAA college, and who knows what the make up of
college gymnastics will be like in the next 10-15 years.
State Meet (L6-E) Bid:
JP – Sean said LD Bell is
ready.
SS – Agreed.
KM – Discussed appointing
people to run the meet as “meet director” and “on-site equipment coordinator.”
Much discussion about the
costs, logistics, different (AAI) equipment to bring in, probable profit to the
scholarship that it could bring by hosting the meet, etc. More to come in the future about this.
(During the L6-E state meet
- the next two days after this Sims Meeting - we gathered at times and
discussed more specifics and generalities concerning hosting the meet, and we
all committed to bidding on the meet at the summer meeting. We also started spreading the word as it is a
very worthy cause that warrants support from the community of coaches).
The Summer Men’s Meeting is
June 9th.
We will possibly have a
meeting or two before the summer meeting to discuss the meet more.
Applicants - Essays and Info - Discussion:
JP – We had two applicants. One was incomplete (no transcript), but had
the letters and rest. The other was
complete.
We voted to give the first
applicant $500 and after much discussion decided to give the second applicant
$1500.
New Business:
MP – Discussion about
possibly giving the money to the recipients in two installments (related to
guys who drop out mid year). Discussion
tabled.
SS – Reminded that the
website has no past recipients on it since nobody has given Greg past names for
him to give to Bret.
Everyone needs to do their
research on this, and send Greg the list of names they have for past recipients
– preferably with corresponding dates.
At the meet a partial list
was given to Greg from Jerit that shows recipients from 89-95 and 95-99. The names of the people from 99 and on were
not included, so that is what we need people to find.
GS - Motion to adjourn.
TE - Second.
Passes unanimously.
The meeting ended at 9:09pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
