Mission Statement:
MP – read mission as is
current.
Discussion about the
mission. Replace “training” with “career”
and added “foundation.”
MP – read new mission. (The mission of the Michael Sims Scholarship
Foundation is to help provide Texas gymnasts the opportunity to pursue a higher
education while continuing their gymnastics career. The objective is to promote gymnastics
excellence, humility, sportsmanship, self-discipline, dedication, and personal
integrity.
Eligibility:
Discussion of who can get
it.
Region 3 camp donation is
covered in our mission due to its broad nature.
$1500 will be sent to
Regional Camp next year again. Possibly
the Ricky Deci fund will match the amount as well.
Application Process:
Trim down the form. Much to take out and some to add.
Discussion about reapplying
for the scholarship.
BF – people need to make a
sacrifice and promote the scholarship. Example with Nick Brooks being at state
promoting the scholarship on his own time.
Discussion about those past
recipients who received the scholarship multiple times.
JP – We need to have some
guidelines regarding amounts given.
Probably a minimum of $500 amount, but that the committee can add more
based if it is warranted.
KM – discussed the number of
people who get the scholarship and how much they get. Mentioned the amount (70,000+) that we have
now and plans for giving it out. There
should be a limit to the number who get it, and those who get it should get
more.
BF – agrees and reiterated above.
Took break and went to Dinner.
Got back and went over the application:
Went over the application in
detail and trimmed it down. Greg will
email out info for committee to approve.
BF - Discussion about whether
or not we have restrictions on who is allowed to sponsor us.
More
discussion about above.
MP
- We should put online the past recipients’ names and amounts they received.
JP - Discussion about
possible poker tournament. Use a room
maybe.
Need to have good prizes.
At GAT we will use a regular
room Friday night.
JP - Talk about golf
tournament possibilities. Maybe the
Friday morning before state meet.
JP - Discussion about
getting a sponsorship letter for us to hand out for donations. Tim and Kevin will email a template to
Jerit. One form is on the TX high school
website on the state.
BF - Possible “guys night
out” idea. Brief discussion.
TE – Discussed giant state
meet having Level 4-E north and south altogether. Went over possible revenues and expenses associated
with it.
